Bus Operator Portal

The Paddle

Current Paddles - June 1, 2025

A Paddle outlines the complete schedule of a bus run for a 24-hour period from pull out to pull in along with notes and other special instructions. Each bus run is printed on a separate paddle. Consistent with the color scheme, Weekday paddles are printed on white paper, Saturday paddles are printed on blue paper, and Sunday paddles are printed on yellow colored papery.

How To Read A Paddle

A paddle is the schedule of a vehicle. By reading a paddle, you can determine where and when the bus will go into service, what time it will pass the timepoints along the route and where and when the bus will go out of service.

The time shown at the extreme left of the paddle is the time the bus is scheduled to leave the base. It is preceded by P and the first letter of the base of operation (A - Anaheim, G - Garden Grove and I - Irvine). P stands for Pull out or Pull in, depending on if the bus is going into service or going out of service. The time shown on the same line directly to the right is the terminal where the bus pulls out to and commences in service. The last time shown underneath a timepoint on the same line is the terminal where the bus is scheduled to terminate on that trip. The times marked on the paddle between the first terminal and the last terminal are scheduled departure times at timepoints. The last column on the extreme right side of the paddle lists the scheduled departure time for the bus to leave the terminal to begin the return trip.

A letter before the first departure time on a trip indicates that an alternate type of service is to be performed on that trip (the most common examples would be A - Alternate, S - School, B - Baseball). Occasionally trips will have a capital letter on the left hand side of the paddle preceding the first timepoint, this indicates there is a note advising the driver of some special instructions.
