Trip Numbers

The trip number is a unique 5-digit identifier assigned to each trip made by a bus on a particular route. It is used for various purposes, including:

1. Scheduling and Operations: Helps in managing and tracking the operations of buses. Each trip number corresponds to a specific departure time and route, allowing the transit agency to monitor service performance and adherence to schedules.

2. Passenger Information: Some transit systems display trip numbers on schedules, apps, or electronic displays to inform passengers about specific trips, including any variations in route or stops.

3. Data Collection and Analysis: Enables transit agencies to collect detailed data on ridership, on-time performance, and other operational metrics for each trip. This information can be used to optimize routes and schedules.

4. Customer Service and Incident Reporting: Allows passengers to reference a specific trip when reporting issues or incidents, making it easier for transit agencies to address and resolve concerns.

All trip numbers are 5 digits. Trip nuumbers are coded so that the first two digits are the line number; The third digit is the day of service; and the fourth and fifth is the sequential number of that particular trip. The first trip always start with a 1.
